Attitude of the Heart What
Jesus is talking about in today's Gospel has less to do with
the size of a bank account or the square footage of a home
than with the attitude of the heart. Jesus teaches in the
Gospel: "…one's life does not consist of
possessions." The rich man in the Gospel is possessed
by his possessions. He was convinced that he needed them for
happiness and that he could never possibly have enough. The
wealth that Jesus is criticizing in the Gospel is a desire
for things of this world that robs the mind of peace, and
the heart from recognizing the greater needs of those around
us. The desire for wealth and things of this world becomes a
poison that deprives us of authentic and enduring happiness.
Such greed is idolatry because a desire for the things of
this world has displaced God from his rightful place in our
hearts. VELIKA GOSPA FEAST We hope that
you received the parish letter regarding Novena and our
Velika Gospa feast. We
hope to see you at this most important parish
event. Please invite your friends and join us for
every evening of Novena to make this event special again.
Let's pray for our sick parishioners and friends,
those in need, and also the deceased members of our beloved

Note from the Principal There is open registration for Pre4 to Gr.8.
Pre3 is closed, but you may want to be placed on the
waiting list. Students
who are entering kindergarten
must be five years old by September 1, 2001.

August 19th from 9 A.M. to 12 noon, and Monday ,
August 20th from 6:00-9:00 P.M. The first day of

priest was asked to give a talk to a group of business people.
He began by attaching a big sheet of white paper onto the back
wall. Then he took out a marking pen and drew a rather large
dot in the middle of the paper. Turning to a man in the front
row, he asked him what he saw. The man promptly answered,
"A big spot." The preacher asked every person in the
room the same question and each one answered, "A big
spot." Then with calm emphasis, the priest said slowly.
Yes, there is a little black spot, but none of you mentioned
the big sheet of white paper, and just that is my speech! I'm
talking about seeing the good side of things." !
