UMNOŽI NAM VJERU!

Ovom molbom apostoli se obraćaju Isusu u današnjem evanpelju. Danas bi mnogi ljudi tražili isto od Gospodin kada bi ga susreli. U mnogim srcima vjera je i danas ugrožena. Neki se pribojavaju danas da već nismo ušli u vrijeme o kojem Isus ovako veli: "Ali kada dođe Sin Čovječiji, hoće li naći vjere na zemlji?" (Lk 18,8) Zašto bismo molili Gospodina da nam umnoži ili sačuva vjeru? Zar vjera nije stvar moga uvjerenja, moga ramišljanja i zaključivanja? Da, mi možemo svojim razumom doći do uvjerenja da postoji Bog! Dapače, dužni smo razmišljati, tražiti istinu. Vjera je u prvom redu dar milosti. "Pravednošću Boga našega i Spasitelja Isusa Krista zapade vas ista dragocjena vjera kao i nas."( 2Pt 1,1). Zato se u prvom redu moramo moliti za dar i milost vjere i da se ta milost u nama sačuva. Uvijek kada te spopadnu VJERSKE SUMNJE, najprije se moli: Gospodine, umnoži mi vjeru. Ako korov grijeha u tvome srcu prijeti da uguši tvoju vjeru, idi, očisti svoje srce od grijeha. Ako ti je izblijedilo vjersko znanje, čitaj vjersku literaturu i dođi na SVETU MISU da ga osvježiš. Sveti Augustin kaže: "Vjeru ne možeš izgubiti, nego samo napustiti".Ozbiljno nastojmo sačuvati našu vjeru, jer kako Lacordaire kaže: "Naša je budućnost: Bog ili nemamo budućnosti."

Ovaj tjedan sjećamo se velikana Duha, sv. Franje:

"Gospodine, učini me sredstvom svoga mira:Gdje je mržnja, da donosim ljubav. Gdje je uvreda, da donosim praštanje. Gdje je nesloga, da donosim jedinstvo. Gdje je zabluda, da donosim istinu. Gdje je sumnja, da donosim vjeru.Gdje je očaj, da donosim nadu.Gdje je tama, da donosim svjetlo.Gdje je žalost, da donosim radost. Gospodine, daj da se toliko ne brinem da budem utješen, koliko da tješim;da me razumiju, koliko da druge razumijem;da budem ljubljen, koliko da ljubim. Jer, tko se daruje, prima; tko sebe zaboravlja, sebe nalazi; tko prašta, bit će mu oprošteno; tko umire, rada se za vječni život." Sv. Franjo

Dijelimo danas radost s obitelji Šime Butić i Marijane rop. Rogić prigodom krštenja njihove kćeri ADRIANE BUTIĆ. Čestitka njima, te kumovima Ivici i Mariji Šimunić.

Slijedeće godine navršava se 90. obljetnica postojanja naše župe sv. Jeronima. Slavlje će biti u nedjelju 6. listopada 2002. Svečana sv. Misa je u 2 sata poslije podne, nakon toga svečani banket u Sheraton Hotelu u centru grada. Molimo vas ovaj datum upišite u svoje kalendare već sada.

HRVATSKA ŽENA priprema svoju tradicionalni godišnju modnu reviju koja će se održati u Hrvatskom Centru u nedjelju 21. listopada. Početak je u 1 sat poslije podne. Francis, Franciscans, Life of Prayer...

October 4^th is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. We share with you a reflection on Franciscan prayer and contemplation.

Prayer is the secret language of the heart. Prayer is a song that is sometimes sung in words that give directions. At other times it is merely music suggesting mood, and still other times it is a rest in the middle of a measure, yielding to silence. For a Franciscan this melody of the heart is always in harmony with the one Word, Jesus Christ, spoken by our loving God. Love and prayer sing harmoniously as one entity in the life of a Franciscan. Just as Francis sought his God and found Christ in the depths of solitude and in the faces and lives of the people about him, so, too, a Franciscan is called to cherish the presence of God within, and to grow in his ministry of love. He is called to become a living prayer: the presence of Christ to the people with whom and for whom he ministers. He is to see Christ in each life that touches his. He is to be Christ, a song of good news.

St. Francis's prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

RELIEF EFFORT FOR TERRORIST VICTIMS In cooperation with the Archdiocese of Chicago/Catholic Charities, it was agreed upon by the St. Jerome Parish Council that the parish would donate $1000.00 to the victims of the tragedy. In addition, there will be a second collection after each mass on the weekend of October 13th & 14th. We appreciate your concern during our country's most difficult time. October Mass Attendance Count

All parishes are asked to participate in the annual count of people attending mass during the weekends in October. This is an important source of information for planning, evangelization, and decision making.

ST. JEROME 90TH ANNIVERSARY - Mark your calendars for October 6, 2002. Our celebration will begin with a High Mass in the early afternoon, followed by an evening of dinner and dancing at the Sheraton Hotel in the Loop. Also, we are looking for any photos or videos from parish events or family events at the parish. Please send these to the rectory clearly marked with your name and address so that we can return them.

9^th International Week of Prayer and Fasting (October 7-16). All concerned Catholics are urged to embrace this week as a Supernatural Mission and make a commitment to Daily Mass, Daily Rosary, Fasting, and Holy Hours of Adoration.

"Croatian Woman" is holding its annual "Fashion Show" at the Croatian Center on Sunday, October 21ts at 1:00 P.M. An excellent meal and entertainment await you at this event. All of the proceeds will go to help the victims of terrorist attack in N.Y.C. and Washington. Tickets are $30.

Remembering September 11^th

This Thursday, October 11, the regular weekly Rosary, Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration in our church will be in memory of the terrorist attack victims (ONE MONTH) . Please join us in prayer.
