"ZNADEMO LI REĆI - HVALA!"

Izrazita tema ove nedjelje jest zahvalnost. To je mnogostruka krepost. Netko je rekao: "Što je neka duša plemenitija i inteligentnija, to ima više pobude za zahvalnost." Sv. Franjo u svojoj pjesmi stvorova zahvaljuje Bogu za sunce, mjesec, zvijezde, vjetar, oganj,zemlju, ljude, pa i samu smrt. On se osjeća silno bogat, sve oko sebe i u sebi smatra darom Božjim. Stoga ga sva stvorenja izazivaju da hvali i zahvaljuje Stvoritelju. Zahvalnost je jaka nota samoga Isusa. Kada bi Isus uzeo kruh i razlomio ga, najprije bi zahvalio Bogu: Hvala ti Bože za ovaj kruh. U svakoj misi središnji dio, tzv. Kanon počinje s pozivom: Hvalu dajmo Gospodinu Bogu našemu.! Gajiti euharistijsku pobožnost, njegovati zahvalnost Bogu i ljudima... Možda su nam ljudi mnogo toga i dužni učiniti. To nas ne oslobađa dužnosti zahvalnosti. Sveti Franjo Saleški kaže: "Jedna hvala Bogu u času trpljenja vrijedi više nego sto Te Deuma u danima sreće." Ima u Turgenjeva, vele, lijepa priča: Nebeski car priredio gozbu za sve Vrline. Mnoge se odavno nisu našle zajedno. No dvije stajahu postrance, nisu se ni poznavale. Gospodin ih ne bi htio predstaviti jednu drugoj. Upita ih za ime. Jedna reče: "Ja sam Dobročinstvo." druga: "Ja sam Zahvalnost ." Od iskona, nikada se nisu sastale. Biblijska čitanja ove nedjelje odgajaju nas za zahvalnost prema Bogu. Zahvaljujmo Gospodinu za sve darove i milosti koje smo primili u našemu životu!

KRŠTENJE

! Danas 14. listopada će u našoj crkvi primiti sakramenat krštenja Dario Ante Šušnjara, sin Johna Šušnjare i Nine r. Ilić, Kumovi su Anna Marie i Ljubo Draženović. Roditeljima i kumovima čestitamo i radujemo se ovom novom članu naše župe.

! Don Hudspeth, dekan američkog koledža za business iz Dubrovnika dolazi u našu zajednicu. On će održati predavanje u četvrtak, 18. listopada u 6:30 navečer o uvjetima studija na ovom prestižnom svjetskom učilištu.

Večer meditacije, molitve, radosti, pjesme, susreta...

U našu sredinu dolazi Tatjana (Tajči) poznata hrvatska glazbenica, kazališna umjetnica, žena velikog glazbenog dara i kršćanskog duha. Nalazimo se u vremenu u kojem nam je potrebno više Duha, više susreta, više nadahnuća, više zastoja pred sobom i Gospodinom kako bismo živjeli život sklada, radosti i razumjeli putove Gospodnje. U nadolazeći četvrtak, 18. listopada s početkom u 7 sati navečer skupit ćemo se u našu crkvu i moliti, meditirati, pjevati zajedno s našom gošćom.

Predstavljanje knjige "Stoljeće vjernosti"

Predstavljanje knjige "Stoljeće vjernosti" autora Fra Roberta Jolića i Fra Joze Grbeša održat će se u nedjelju 4. studenog poslije sv. Mise (12:30 P.M.) u našoj velikoj dvorani. Knjiga govori o stotinu godina života i rada hrvatskih franjevaca na sjevernoameričkom kontinentu. Ona iscrpno donosi detalje o mnogim djelatnostima franjevaca u cilju i nadi očuvanja hrvatskog jezika, duhovnosti i kulturne baštine. Knjigu će predstaviti kustos hrvatskih franjevaca za Ameriku i Kanadu, fra Marko Puljić, autor knjige fra Jozo Grbeš, te autor naslovne stranice, akademski slikar Francis Penavić. PRIJE PREDSTAVLJANJA KNJIGE POZVANI STE NA OBJED u našu veliku dvoranu, koji priređuje MARIJINO DRUŠTVO!

HRVATSKA ŽENA priprema svoju tradicionalni godišnju modnu reviju koja će se održati u Hrvatskom Centru u nedjelju 21. listopada. Početak je u 1 sat poslije podne. SECOND COLLECTION FOR TERRORIST VICTIMS - In cooperation with the Archdiocese of Chicago/Catholic Charities, St. Jerome Parish is helping the victims of the terrorist attack . American College in Dubrovnik Mr. Don Hudspeth, the dean of the Rochester Institute of Technology's American College of Management and Technology located in Dubrovnik, Croatia, is coming this Thursday at 6:30 P.M. to give a presentation on this interesting educational opportunity. Anyone interested should meet in the small hall.

ST. JEROME 90TH ANNIVERSARY-Mark your calendars for October 6, 2002. "Croatian Woman" is holding its annual "Fashion Show" at the Croatian Center next Sunday, October 21^st at 1:00 P.M. An excellent meal and entertainment await you at this event. All of the proceeds will go to help the victims of the terrorist attack in N.Y.C. and Washington. Tickets are $30.

New Altar Servers: New candidates for altar servers will be solemnly received during the 9:30 A.M. mass on Sunday, November 25, the feast of Christ the King. Book Presentation and Luncheon: The presentation of a new book "A Century of Fidelity", written by our Franciscan priests, Fr. Robert Jolic and Fr. Joe Grbes, will be held on Sunday, November 4 in our school hall after the 11 A.M. Croatian mass. The book is an account of the 100 years that our Croatian Franciscans have spent ministering in North America. Fr. Marko Puljic, Custos of the Croatian Franciscans in N.A., will introduce the book. The presentation will be made by Fr. Marko Puljic, Custos of the Croatian Franciscans, one of its authors, Fr. Joe, and the artist whose work appears in it, Francis Penavic. The Marian Society will serve lunch at 12:30 and the presentation will follow.
