SNAGA USTRAJNE MOLITVE

Molitva je stalno prisutna u Isusovu Evanđelju. On sam moli i o molitvi nam daje svoje naputke. Nekada su Isusovi napuci podosta šokantni, iskazuje ih na pomalo začuđujući način, kao u današnjem evanđelju. K tome, uz temeljnu poruku nedjelje, ostajemo uvijek osjetljivi za cijelo suzvučje "stola Riječi Božje." Duh Sveti može učiniti da odjednom neka riječ plane, neki izričaj oživi i nenadano osvijetli naš životni put, naše putovanje k Bogu. Može zapaliti u srcu oganj koji će u nama zadugo gorjeti. Današnji evanđeoski odlomak Luka nadovezuje na Isusovu poruku o konačnoj uspostavi Kraljevstva Božjega. Dakle, pouka o ustrajnoj molitvi spada u eshatološki sklop. Vrlo su teške Isusove riječi: "Ali kada dođe Sin čovječiji, hoće li naći vjere na zemlji?" . Svakako je ovo neporeciva Isusova riječ. No značajno je da ju je izrazio upitno. Ona daje temelja kršćanskome pesimizmu u svako vrijeme, kako ne bi onda i u ovo naše. No u konačnici je upit meni i tebi osobno, a onda nama u zajednici vjere. Pazimo da Sin Čovječiji, kada god dođe - a on uvijek dolazi - u nama nađe istinsku i založenu vjeru, vjeru molitvenu i vjeru djelatnu. "Ora et labora - Moli i radi!"

Predstavljanje knjige "Stoljeće vjernosti"

Predstavljanje knjige "Stoljeće vjernosti" autora Fra Roberta Jolića i Fra Joze Grbeša održat će se u nedjelju 4. studenog poslije sv. Mise (12:30 P.M.) u našoj velikoj dvorani. Knjiga govori o stotinu godina života i rada hrvatskih franjevaca na sjevernoameričkom kontinentu. Ona iscrpno donosi detalje o mnogim djelatnostima franjevaca u cilju i nadi očuvanja hrvatskog jezika, duhovnosti i kulturne baštine. Knjigu će predstaviti kustos hrvatskih franjevaca za Ameriku i Kanadu, fra Marko Puljić, jedan od autora knjige fra Jozo Grbeš, te autor naslovne stranice, akademski slikar Francis Penavić. Iste nedjelje prije predstavljanja knjige MARIJINO DRUŠTVO priprema ručak u našoj dvorani.

NOVE KNJIGE

Stigao je veliki broj novih knjiga, novina, CD-a u naš Župni ured. Isto tako imamo i veliki broj Biblija na hrvatskom jeziku. Svaka naša obitelj trebala bi imati u svojoj kući Bibliju, molitvenik, duhovne knjige. Svi oni koji još uvijek nemaju dovoljno duhovnih i povijesnih knjiga, mogu ih kupiti nedjeljom nakon svete mise u našoj dvorani.

10 GODINA VUKOVARA Sprema se obilježavanje 10. obljetnice patnje i slobode Vukovara, sjećanje na sve žrtve i nasilje učinjeno Hrvatima tog divnog hrvatskog grada. Sjeƒanje na Vukovar održat će se svečanom akademijom u auditorijumu Healy School, na sam dan pada Vukovara, u nedjelju 18. studenog u 2 sata poslije podne. Molimo Vas računajte na ovaj datum. Bit će to multimedijska prezentacija sjećanja na prošlost i patnju, sadašnjost i nadu tog našeg herojskog grada slobode.

HOW DO WE PRAY ?

There are people who give up prayer when they do not get what they ask . They will quote what Jesus said on one occasion, "Ask and it will be given you. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened to you." ( Mt 7: 7) They will complain, " How many times I asked for this and that, but nothing happened. What is the use of praying? I wonder whether God listens at all?" Why is it that some of our prayers are not answered? It is because we do not pray enough and with faith. How much time do you set aside for prayer? How do you pray? Often our prayers are limited to certain formulas. We recite them without putting our hearts into them. Even our attendance at Mass is sometimes only a ritual we go through without being personally involved. Prayer brings people to Christ. Prayer is a force that brings people to conversion of heart and mind. It is prayer that gains victory over the evil forces of the world. This is the message we find in today's Word of God. Let us pray the "Our Father", the model prayer taught by Jesus Himself, Master of Prayer. In a missionary manner we say: Our Father, You are in heaven. Hallowed be Your name throughout the world through the missionary activity of every Christian. Your Kingdom come through New Evangelization. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven through faith, love, peace, justice, and brotherhood. Give us today and every day our daily bread, food for body, mind, and spirit. Forgive us our sins and inequities, as we forgive those who are indebted to us. Do not let us succumb to temptation, but deliver us from every evil, injustice, and selfishness. AMEN

OUR DECEASED

Our parishioner, Angie Pudar, passed away on Friday, October 12^th. She was 81 years old. She generously contributed her time over the years at our parish and school. Her funeral mass was held on Monday, October 15. We offer our prayers and condolences to her daughters Georgia and Jackie; her grandson Ryan, and her three sisters, Mary, Anne and Lina. May God rest her soul in peace.

Tony Marusich, age 85, died on Oct. 10. He was the brother of Joe (Tiger Joe Marsh) Marusich who was known for his role as "Mr. Clean."

Book Presentation and Luncheon The presentation of a new book "A Century of Fidelity", written by our Franciscan priests, Fr. Robert Jolic and Fr. Joe Grbes, will be held on Sunday, November 4 in our school hall after the 11 A.M. Croatian mass. The book is an account of the 100 years that our Croatian Franciscans have spent ministering in North America. Fr. Marko Puljic, Custos of the Croatian Franciscans in N.A., will introduce the book. The presentation will be made by Fr. Marko Puljic, Custos of the Croatian Franciscans; one of its authors, Fr. Joe; and the artist whose work appears in it, Francis Penavic. THE BOOK IS WRITTEN IN ENGLISH AND CROATIAN!

The Marian Society will serve lunch for this occasion at 12:30 P.M. The presentation will follow.

Men's Evening of Reflection at St. Lucy's

ST. JEROME 90TH ANNIVERSARY - Mark your calendars for October 6, 2002.
